How to make a Top Hat? or how I got to finish my Slash look?
Today I woke up, had breakfast, argued with my code, showered and made my way to Arely’s. It’s been a while since I went to her house, so I was excited.
The plan for the day was to work on the Slash top hat that I need to finish my Slash outfit for the photo shoot I’m doing on my birthday. Arely has always been the master of manual crafts so I knew that she was the perfect person to help me make my top hat. I got to Arely’s and we went to her room, talked and fooled around a bit and then started working.
Does it fit? Yes, it does!!!
Yup, I think we have a winner.
No tutorial on how to make a hat because I suck at explaining things. Still, this is the raw form of the hat. It is made out of cardboard that Arely had lying around. Then she covered everything in newspaper and glue. I just cut newspaper strips for it. I’m totally hopeless at doing anything handmade. Codes are great but crafts… no thank you.
Newspaper covered hat!
This was done to give it strength and a better shape. Arely got her fingers soaked in glue and I cut way too much paper while we gossiped. Gossip is always good, specially when it’s about your old high school friends.
Drying the hat n_n.
Then we left her house (hat in tow) to buy some spray paint and ribbons to paint it. We took my car and went to the paint store, then to the fabric store. Rosma was supposed to meet us at Arely’s but she got there, then left and disappeared until 5 when she came back to Arely’s. Meanwhile we spray painted the hat and dried it again.
Painted hat.
After that we put on pink ribbon on it, it looked really cute, but not very Slash-like.
Oh, so cute n_n.
The we got some studs and proceeded to put on black ribbon instead of pink ribbon, then we glued the studs on and it was done. Here’s the final product:
It looks good doesn’t it?
This picture just cracks me up!
Once the hat was done, we had a meal, and the played Lips and Scene it! in the XBOX 360°. I had a lot of fun but had to leave early because my mum needed my car :(.
Kisses,
Julie.

Thanks everyone for the comments on the hat. I didn’t make it, the craftsmanship is 100% Arely’s. I just cut strips of newspaper and held the dryer :P.
