I was sick and other happier things

This week was Engineering Week!!! YAY!! Wuuu, say hello to a whole week of partying and going around cool conferences and showing off our projects!!! Except it wasn’t quite like that.

It all started on Monday when I was told that OMG!! We have to present our project tomorrow and your models don’t work on the program!! I made some changes and let the experts handle the rest.At the end of the day all the models were visible on our program except for my brother’s. Apparently the samurai (yes, he made a 3D samurai) was too awesome for our program to handle so he made is own program and showed it in another computer. Classes were mostly cancelled Tuesday – Thursday because of the conferences.

On Tuesday I arrived at school at 10:45 am, missed the Engineering Faculty picture (OH MY! But the others missed it too), and made my way to our stand. People were already there with CPUs, monitors and stuff to put up the IT (Information Technologies) stands. Ours was set up really fast: plug everything in, position it and make it look pretty. In the meantime, Alekz and I went to get some free Coca~Cola Zero and then went back to the stand. The Coke was the reason my day started going down the drain.

My stomach started aching and I blamed the gas in the Coke (I don’t drink much soda, much less Coca Zero) and I let it go. People were coming to our stand, watching what it was all about and asking questions. I made a whole speech about the project, Carmen, Alekz, L and the brother helped me perfection it! At about 12 something, the Faculty director came by and he was smitten by our project and I quote:

GUARD YOUR CODE!!

After a brief showing of our animated short films, Alekz left to go eat with his lil’ sis and L and I stayed in the stand with Hugo watching Chuy and Chon work on putting their project back together. They made a huge multi-touch screen! It was awesome! I had so much fun playing with that thing n_n.

After a brief lunch where I had half a sandwich and some tea (my stomach still hurt and a headache started to form by then) we went back to the stand (Lau, L and I) and there were some weird kids playing with our stand. WTF? o_O they might steal the computer we thought. But nooo, they were kids from other schools and faculties that had come to see what the fuzz was about in our lounge. There was this very geeky International Relations guy who was amazed by our project. I talked to him and when he knew that I had modeled some 3D space invaders, he asked to hug me and then found me vía Facebook. Nice boy, a little creepy but nice.

I also explained our project to a guy from Suse and Mike gave a miniature Tux. The dude was thoroughly impressed and Mike was pleased n_n.

At 4, Grandpa (nickname for a very cool professor which we all love) said that we had to be at the conference. So I left L and Hugo manning the stand. I went to the conference with Alekz and Shana Pol. My head ache was really bad by then and I was moments away from fainting and/or crying because of the pain. Then the people at the conference decided to turn the A/C on and I was freezing. Lucky for me Shana Pol lent me his jacket n_n. I loooove that jacket!

After the conference we managed to take a picture for the Uni’s newspaper with the lecturer and I said hi to Russian.

I explained my project like another 5 times and then I said STOP and left to my house. On the way to my car I had to cross a huge puddle and my shoes got ruined. My head ache was unbearable, it was raining really hard and the high way was crowded. I got home, called my sister to get me some other shoes and the went straight to my room, turned the lights off and crawled underneath the covers.

I spent the night in and out of fever-ish sleep. I went to the doctor and apparently this was brought on by exhaustion, stress and caffeine overload. He told me to get some vitamins and stay hydrated. I stayed home today and tomorrow I’m only attending my night class. I’m going to miss Alekz’ talk and the rest of Engineering Week but my health comes first. I’m feeling much, much better now.

Kisses,

Julie.

P.S.: Cool videos and pictures after I get the brother to pass them along.

Sobre la exhaustion y el stress, no te preocupes, eso solo quiere decir que estás cumpliendo eso de que te vas a echar el semestre machín, cuida eso de siempre llevar caffeine free hidratations y estar siempre bien alimentada para que no pase nada.
