Interview, a big one

So I’ve been freaking out the last coupe of days.

You know that I always freak out, whether it is about what I’m going to eat or what I’m going to wear, I freak out (it is not healthy at all). You see I saw on Twitter that a certain magazine was looking for interns.

I shall not name the magazine because I don’t want to jinx things yet, still some of you that have seen my twitter know the whole story right now.

So I sent an email, asking what kind of interns they were looking for. They said that they were looking for interns that would work in many areas of the mag and that I should send my resume. I sent my resume with a lot of hope but very few expectations. The next day I saw an email where they asked me more about what I do and that was it.

On Monday I got a call! They wanted me to come in and interview!

So I spent the next two days stressing over what to wear. I had 2 breakdowns and many freak outs because, as a good engineer, I have nothing that is corporate-friendly. You see, us engineers (specially those who work on computer graphics) wear whatever we like and no one cares. Most of my clothes are kind of stylish but not suitable for a job interview.

In the end, I was overdressed, but as the CollegeFashion.net article I read says “It’s always better to be over dressed than under dressed!”. So here’s what I wore:

And this is why I hate pictures with flash!

  • Rockabilly 50’s style dress from eBay and borrowed from my sister
  • Black top (gift from L)
  • Black tights
  • Steve Madden ankle boots

I love how skinny that dress made me look. I hate that it emphasized my belly.

I got there quite early and was interviewed by the Graphic Designer. She was really nice and cool. They were looking for an intern to help administrate their website, basically upload content and pictures. Nothing big and probably not paid. I met the Fashion Director, her dog, the Art Director and the General Director of the magazine. They were all super cool and super nice, I feel like in a strange way, I fit in there.

At the same time, came in the lady who is making the new website for the magazine (with a CMS). We talked and the others asked my opinion on the software and just random questions about whether or not I could use it. Then I got to show them what I had done (web pages) and they said that they’d call after the Holidays to see if they would hire me or not.

I exchanged numbers with the lady from the website and left.

So, yeah, it was a cool interview at a cool place where I can develop in an industry that I always wanted to work at. Even if it gets to nothing, I still pat myself in the back for getting an interview at a fashion magazine (something I always wanted to do).

I’m on cloud nine.
